Introduction:
The extractor is a rinse and vacuum machine. It uses hot water and low-foaming
cleaning agent for regular cleaning of carpets.
If the carpet has been previously shampooed with a dry foam shampoo, the
extractor should be used without adding a detergent to the hot water. This
rinses out the shampoo residue and build-up and carries the soil away as
before; however, the foam must be reduced in the pick-up tank by using a
defoaming product.
The extractor method wets the carpet less than a shampoo procedure but a
little more than the yarn pad method.
Recommended Steps Before Using Extractor:
Remove by hand obvious accumulations of soil, such as gum, candy and other
loose objects. Move as much furniture as possible from the area. Test fabric
for color fastness or possible damage from the detergent or spotter in an
out-of-the-way area. Treat spots and stains with special spotters. See “Spot
Cleaning Carpet And Fabrics”. Thoroughly vacuum to remove all loose dirt.
Overlap so there is little chance of soil being missed.

Use Of Extractor Method:
As in all cleaning procedures, the first step is to gather the recommended
janitorial equipment and supplies together and bring to the area to be
cleaned.
Fill extractor solution tank with 2-4 ounces of extractor detergent per gallon
of hot water. Follow directions for heat control and other necessary operating
settings.
To clean, place wand at a comfortable distance in front of you so the
triangular tool is perpendicular to the carpet. Depress the dispensing valve
and pull want toward you at a slow, steady pace, releasing the valve just
before the end of the “pass”.
Return tool to same spot and vacuum the damp area until soil or water can no
longer be seen entering the pick-up tank.
Repeat operation with each “pass”, slightly overlapping the previous one.
Do not overwet carpet. After extraction, vacuum with no solution being
applied, in one direction with the grain.
After Extraction:
Arrange the best possible drying conditions and keep all traffic and furniture
off until completely dry. Then vacuum once again to lift the pile and remove
any residue of loosened soil on the pile.
If furniture with metal tips must be replaced on carpet that is not completely
dry, insert cardboard, plastic or aluminum strips underneath to prevent rust
marks.
Allow time to clean up and return the cleaning equipment to the storage area.
