Procedure for Light Fixture Cleaning and the Janitorial Equipment Needed

Procedure for Light Fixture Cleaning and the Janitorial Equipment Needed

Recommended Cleaning Supplies and Janitorial Equipment:

EPA Registered Cleaner/Disinfectant
Ladder or Scaffold for Reaching Ceiling or High Display Fixture Lights
Cart or Dolly with Containers in Which to Place Light Covers or Diffusers and Reflectors
Container for Light Bulbs
Two Large Cleaning Tanks
Large Bucket, Wash Cloth, Sponge and Drying Cloth
Pliers or Other Tools Needed To Dismantle Light Fixtures
Rubber Gloves

Recommended Method:

As in all cleaning procedures, the first step is to gather the recommended janitorial equipment together and bring to the area to be cleaned.

Remove the glass cover or diffuser and place in cart. Remove the light bulbs and starters and place in cart.
Remove the reflector, if not permanent, and place in cart.

Repeat this procedure for three or four fixtures.

Fill both cleaning tanks with hot water and add EPA registered cleaner/disinfectant to one, following recommended dilution ratios.

Wash cover or diffuser in cleaning tank, rinse in rinsing tank and set aside to dry.

Wash reflector in washing tanks, rinse in rinsing tank and wipe down with drying cloth.

Fill bucket and add EPA registered cleaner/disinfectant to water, following manufacturer’s directions.

Sponge down the permanent fixture parts and wipe dry.

Damp wipe light bulbs.

Repeat for three or four dismantled fixtures.

Be sure to inspect your work and correct any steps you might have missed. As in all cleaning procedures, allow time to clean up and return the janitorial equipment to the storage area. Finally, when you are finished, wash hands and dry thoroughly.
