Efficient Restroom Cleaning

Restroom Care: Be Efficient

Cleaning a restroom will require less work and the results will be more satisfactory if a system of cleaning and sanitation is followed.

Adequate restroom care can be built around daily cleaning, spot cleaning and periodic maintenance. Attention to the following work-saving principles will help to produce clean, pleasant restrooms that are healthy and create the desired impressions:

• Follow an orderly pattern of movement.
• Clean objects that can be cleaned with the same products at the same time.
• Plan your steps so the cleaners will have time to work

A Good Rule Of Thumb: Clean from high to low, towards the doorway, and do dry work before wet work.

The order of the jobs may need to be varied according to the characteristics of the particular restroom or the problems corrected on a particular day. To satisfy this need for efficiency, the following sequence is suggested:

• Check the cart and proceed to the restroom.
• Knock on the door, identify yourself (“Housekeeping” ) and enter when appropriate. Place a “Closed For Cleaning” sign at the door.
• Clean and fill all dispensers
• Remove the trash and clean the receptacles.\
• Dust mop or sweep the floor.
• Clean the sinks.
• Clean the mirrors.
• Clean and disinfect the toilets and/or urinals.
• Clean and disinfect the shower stalls and locker area.
• Damp wipe the area.
• Remove any graffiti (if applicable).
• Wet mop and disinfect the floors.
• Inspect your work.
• Re-open the restroom.
